Whitman & Rasberry Secure Victory
Hunter Whitman & Luke Rasberry take the top spot in the first annual Collegiate / High School Team Tournament hosted by the North Carolina State Bass Pack
October 14, 2017 – Jordan Lake (Chapel Hill, NC)
With nearly $4000 in prizes on the line, the future anglers of the sport, from both the high school and collegiate platforms, combined efforts to do battle on Jordan Lake in a first-of-its-kind event for the area. Hosted by the North Carolina State Bass Pack, the event consisted of twenty-five collegiate anglers pairing up with twenty-five high school anglers to form a team and test their skills among fellow competitors, all while creating new friendships and memories along the way. Teams launched from the Farrington Point Wildlife access shortly after 7:00AM and returned at 2:00PM. Faced with overcast skies during the morning, the sun finally broke through around mid-day and provided a perfect weigh-in atmosphere.
NC State’s Hunter Whitman and Green Central High School’s Luke Rasberry secured the top spot in the event with a five fish limit tipping the scales at 18.17 lbs.
Ben Hager of UNC-Charlotte and William Mills, another Greene Central High School angler, settled in the second position with their five fish limit weighing in at 17.60 lbs.
James Maiorano and Grayson Whicker filled the third spot with their catch of 15.94 lbs. The duo also landed the lunker of the event at 7.09 lbs and were rewarded with the Yeti Cooler Lunker Prizes.
Hunter Hartkopf and Gilliam Tharpe took the fourth spot with 14.56 lbs, while Jonathan West and Hunter White rounded out the top five with their catch of 11.73 lbs.
